But being called upon to put your first aid skills into practice is far more common than you might think. Effective CPR and defibrillation is the only definitive treatment for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest. Given that the victim’s chance of survival decreases by approximately 10% for each minute that passes by without bystander CPR until defibrillation.
